Zephyr, MK III Sauvignon Blanc
An underdog wine producer who’s zooming past the world ranking producers of New Zealand.
Country of Production: New Zealand
Producer: Glover Family Vineyards
Tasting Notes: Fleshy and crisp, with superb weight and depth. Vibrant melon, gooseberry and lime flavours, and slightly salty and leesy notes adding complexity.
Sited on the banks of the Opawa river where the soils are composed of free draining silt and loam, the vines average 20 years old and are worked organically, although not certified. The vines are trained on vertical shoot positioned trellis wires yielding around 4kg per vine.
The grapes were hand-picked, whole bunch pressed and put straight into very old French Oak Barriques to wild ferment. With no additions during the fermentation process, this wine was left untouched for 9 months.
Blend: Sauvignon Blanc 100%
Oak Treatment: This wine has spent 9 months in very old French oak barrels, adding defined but well-integrated structure and breadth to the finished wine
Bottle Size: 75cl
Closure: Screw cap
Drink: Enjoy from now until 2025
Suitable for Vegetarians: No
Suitable for Vegans: No
This vibrant flavoursome white is perfect with paella, freshly caught whole-cooked fish, well-seasoned (or even smoked) fish, barbeque calamari, seared tuna, goats and feta cheeses.

Zephyr Wines is a family owned vineyard in New Zealand, where the Glover family were one of the first to plant grapes in Marlborough’s Dillon’s Point sub-region in 1988. Now led by eldest son Ben, the family launched Zephyr, a range of single vineyard wines from the farm. The name Zephyr means ‘a gentle breeze’, inspired by the prevailing wind that moderates their vineyards and Ben’s love of the Ford Zephyr from the 1950’s. Ben sees this as one of the best cars ever made, hence, it’s not surprising that the company vehicle is the winged 1965 Mark 3 Zephyr.
The vineyard is only three kilometres from the sea and sits 10 metres above sea level. Being close to the sea influences a very unique flavour profile and sense of place from this single vineyard site.
Wine experts say…
“‘If I had to choose just one Kiwi Sauvignon at the moment, it would be the harmonious, beautifully balanced, Zephyr Sauvignon Blanc”
Tim Atkin, The Observer.
Awards and special notes
“It was the simplicity of the label which attracted me to this bottle, and the wine was just as good.
This is a 10 out of 10 for me!”
